Harbour's End Logo Holiday Apartments, Ilfracombe, North Devon

Harbour's End is situated on Fore Street which is the oldest road in Ilfracombe dating back to when the town was just one road winding down to the sea and the natural harbour. Most of Fore Street including this building is listed and also within the Harbour Conservation Area. Therefore much of the original character of the area has been retained. Fore Street has restricted access (it is possible to pull up to the front door to unload) & therefore almost traffic free. It is a quiet road that also boasts 2 friendly traditional pubs (one is the oldest building in Ilfracombe & the other is the oldest pub) and several restaurants. Takeaways, cafes and tea shops are not far away. The harbour beach is some 50 metres distant and the high street with local shops and a night club about 5 minutes walk away.

The building itself is thought in parts to be some 500 years old with a later 2 storey extension in Georgian times. During renovation it was discovered that the building was in fact constructed from old ships'  timbers, possibly from a wreck, something not unusual on the rugged North Devon Coast. Some of these timbers are still visible in apartments 3 & 4. At one point the building was the local bakery and has over the years been the abode of a prominent family of shipwrights.

Harbour's End was converted in the 1970s to 4 self contained apartments and these were extensively and tastefully modernised for the 2005 season as holiday apartments. The style is simple and uncluttered with original artworks (which are also for sale) on the walls. The building is south facing and the large sash windows in apartments 1-3 mean that the living areas are bright & sunny. Apartment 4 is more cosy being built into the eaves. The 4 apartments sleep between 2 and 5 and they can be booked individually or together giving flexible accommodation for up to 15.

There is a washing machine & tumble dryer within the building for the free use of guests. As these are situated in a small room off the stairwell we regret that they are not accessible to wheelchair users. There is no additional charge for electricity or gas.

Please note that we are a no smoking establishment.
