Our policy is to do whatever we can to assist our guests to enjoy their stay. We appreciate that some guests may have different requirements and have tried to provide additional help where we can. However we appreciate that everyone is different and with different needs - therefore we ask that if there is anything else we can do for you that you tell us. We hope the following information will help:
- Wheelchair Access
Only the ground floor (apartment 1) is accessible by wheelchair. We have tried to make any adjustments that we can during the refurbishment but because the building is old and listed some areas were just not possible to enlarge to assist with access.
- The whole of apartment 1 is on one level and although there were some slight steps (max 3" / 7.5cm) these have been replaced with ramps
- Within the apartment itself doorways are 33" / 84cm wide
- There are grab rails in the bathroom & toilet & next to the bed
- Kitchen worktops are at 32" / 81cm height - one of the kitchen base units has been removed to allow wheelchair access beneath
- The microwave is at 34" / 86.5cm height
- The front door is 32" / 81cm wide
- There is a sharp left turn in the entrance hall with 33" / 84cm clearance
- There is 14" / 35.5cm clearance each side of the bed but if you let us know in advance we can remove one of the bedside tables and push the bed against the wall - this will leave 28" / 71cm clearance on one side. Alternatively we can turn the bed sideways.
- Light switches are at 36" / 91.5cm height and electrical sockets at 24" / 61cm height
- Fire escape is via the front door
- A high back chair is available for the lounge area but this is not normally kept at the apartments so please let us know in advance if it is required
- Washing machine & tumble dryer are located just off the stairwell & several steps up from ground floor level. Therefore regretfully they are not accessible by wheelchair
Fore Street is traffic restricted, but is access only so you are able to pull up outside the building to unload. There is some parking to the rear but no wheelchair access into the building from the rear. The Cove car park is some 50 metres away on the level. Fore Street itself is on a hill although the bottom 100 metres (which Harbour's End is in the middle of) is flat, as is most of the harbour and sea front area.
- Hearing Aid Induction Loop
Fitted in the open plan living area (by the TV) of apartments 1, 2 & 3. The amplifier unit is available only in one apartment at a time due to interference between units. Please let us know if you require this unit.
- Sight Impaired
Our brochure and other information are also available in large print and as a talking cassette upon request. Doors and doorframes have been painted in contrasting shades to aid vision.
- Assistance Dogs
Welcome in all apartments but please let us know in advance.
